When it starts to heat up, you want to be able to turn on your air conditioner and not sweat about it — pun intended! There are times, however, when your AC will start up just fine, and then a few weeks into the summer, you end up with some signals that warn you your AC isn’t going to last all summer problem-free. When you depend on the AC to stay cool during the summer months like so many of us do, you need to watch out for these signs of an impending AC repair.
- Noises- While all air conditioners will make some kind of noise, it’s important to be able to discern between normal usage noises and noises that signal AC repairs. Usually, those sounds can include anything from a screeching noise to a grinding sound, so keep a close eye (and ear) on your AC during the summer, especially those first few weeks that you have it on.
- No cool air- When your AC is going through the motions but not actually producing cool air, you are probably going to need an AC repair. On occasion, this issue can be resolved by working with the thermostat. Most cases, however, will require expert AC repairs to troubleshoot and repair the issue.
- Age- Air conditioners only last between 10 and 15 years, depending on your care and maintenance of the AC unit. If your AC is on the older end of the scale, chances rise that you will need an AC repair this summer.
